Wait For The Lord

Over the past few weeks, God has been so good to me! He’s allowed me to use this website to share the things He’s put on my heart, He’s allowed me to launch a podcast that has been received well (The UR Story Podcast which can be found here), and He has been growing me in wisdom as I continue to dive into His word daily. The things that I’m learning and the wisdom that I’ve been growing into has been nothing short of amazing, and I can humbly say that all the glory goes to Him. Something that I’ve come to know, is that the longer you walk in faith and union with the Lord, and the more devoted you become to studying His word, the more you’ll see the desire within you grow to share it with others. And that is what I try my best to do through The Reclassified.

However, it often gets difficult trying to figure out what to write and talk about. Not only because there is so much scripture that is being poured into me and seeping within to the pores of my brain and heart, but because I don’t want to simply just write a blog post just for the sake of writing a blog post. Because if that is the case, biblical devotions for me become content instead of a time that I can spend with the Lord. My purpose for being intentional in my walk of faith isn’t just to write encouraging blogs. My purpose is to glorify God to the highest degree and to love Him with all my heart, soul, mind, and strength, and to love others.

Because of this, I MUST make sure that I’m fully in tune with the Holy Spirit and that I am being prayerful. I want to make sure that what I am writing is what God wants me to write. So as I was praying and studying this week, I ran into the same difficulty that I just mentioned. Which was the fact that I couldn’t think of anything to write about. Until God lead me to read the book of Psalms, and He guided me to two verses that both had something in common. Specifically, four words that said, “Wait for the Lord”, and at that moment, God gave me the direction I needed to go with this writing.

The first verse God led me to was Psalms 40:1-2, “I waited patiently for the Lord; He turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; He set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand.” The other verse was Psalms 130:5, “I wait for the Lord, my whole being waits, and in His Word I put my hope.” Although you can take a few things away from each verse, I believe the overall message in both are very similar.

Wait With Expectation

Something I’ve come to learn about God is how intentional He is in everything He does. He doesn’t just do things for the sake of doing them. There is always a reason for the things He does and allows to happen. In this case, He is showing His intentionality through the words of David. We’re told, by David, “I waited patiently for the Lord.” The key word in that declaration is PATIENTLY. Although that is just one word, it really changes the whole dynamic of the declaration. When you’re being patient, you’re willing to experience a delay or problem because, within patience, brings an expectation. Truly waiting patiently for the Lord means that you’re expecting Him. I don’t think that patience can exist without some ounce of belief that the thing that you are waiting for will make its way to you. That doesn’t necessarily mean that you will get everything you’re patiently waiting for, but when it comes to God being there for you, He will always show up.

There will be times and seasons in your life where it seems that God is far from you. Where you feel like your prayers aren’t being answered or acknowledged. Where it feels like God has removed the favor He has had upon you. Feeling that way can make you cry out to the Lord. It can make you feel like you’re in a slimy pit, mud, or mire, that limits your momentum and walk with Christ.

But the awesome and encouraging thing about it, is that the verse tells us, “He (the Lord) turned to me and heard my cry.” I think David is not only speaking for himself for whatever circumstances he may have been going through, but is also speaking for us. See, God turned to David, or in other words, He saw him and showed up. God heard David’s cry, and recognized his voice. In other words, not only does God hear His children, but He knows and recognizes their voice; Not only does God see His children, but He shows up for them. The same way He did that for David, the same thing He will do for you. But sometimes, God may be waiting for us to cry out to Him.

God Holds True To His Word

I’m sure most of you know the quote that says, “A man is only as good as his word.” As far as who exactly said that quote, I’m not sure. But there have been different variations and ways that many have said it. But there was one variation that I found that was my favorite. Mainly because I’m biased towards the Lord, and rightfully so. It says:

“God’s Word is as good as He is. There is an old saying that a man is as good as His Word. Well, God is as good as His Word. His character is behind what He has said.”

See, we’re told in one of the books of the gospel, John, that “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” (John 1:1). When God gives us His word, a promise, or a declaration, we can be 100% confident in Him in the fact that His resume for delivering on His promises is unblemished. That truth can give you a hope that is unwavering. When someone gives you their word, that means they mean what they say. “I’ll keep my promise.” However, being the imperfect humans that we are, as well as the situations and problems of life arising daily, it can be difficult for us to keep our word. There are also others who give you their word with the complete intention of not following through. However, God has, is, and will forever keep His word. So if you haven’t put your hope in Him and His word, why not put your hope in it today?

Conclusion

Once I realized that God wanted me to write about this, I got the point He was trying to make to me. I was diligently reading in the scriptures and my past notes to find what to write that I didn’t stop and wait for the Lord to show me. But once He led me to those verses in Psalms, He reminded me of the importance of waiting FOR Him. The reason I have FOR capitalized is because, like the word patient, it is a word of expectation. The word FOR is used to indicate the place someone or something is going to or toward. God is so intentional! What I was reminded of after this whole process, was that God will always show up. I don’t have to worry about running out of time trying to figure out what to write because God will always show up. However, it will be on His timing, not my own.

Throughout this week, and the rest of your lives, I encourage you to wait for God. It may be difficult at times, but like we’re told, “He set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand.” Let God be your rock. Let Him be your foundation. Put your hope in His Word!

God Bless!
