Thanks Living

“Everyday, is a day of thanksgiving. God’s been so good to me, everyday He’s blessing me.”

I love these words. When I hear them, I think of the lyrics in the old gospel song my family always used to sing at the church my Uncle pastored for. It’s a reminder that thanksgiving is not just a day limited to the fourth Thursday of November. It’s important for us to make the feeling we experience on Thanksgiving a lifelong way of life. Thanksgiving should become a thanks living.

Our thankfulness should be continuous, from morning to noon and then night. Our thankfulness should be directed to the Lord. For everything He has given us and for the amazing things he continues to do in our lives. Adopting the lifestyle of thanks living will allow your mind to be free and allow you to be grateful in every situation. This will show through your attitude and through your actions.

A positive attitude begins with a heart full of gratitude.

The foundation of thanks living is built on the grace and mercy that comes from the Lord. When our focus is on Him and the blessings that He bestows upon us, the appreciation of what we have will flow through us.

Being grateful is a command. There are many verses in the Bible of God reminding us of this. Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth, a Christian radio host and author notes this. “God has commanded it—for our good and for His glory. God’s command to be thankful is not the threatening demand of a tyrant. Rather, it is the invitation of a lifetime—the opportunity to draw near to Him at any moment of the day.”

Gratefulness is an invitation to a life full of joy. A life free from the bondage of allowing situations and circumstances to define who we are.

I’m not saying this is something that’s easy to do. Life is hard and there will always be things that can bring us down. There will be struggles, burdens, and troubles. It won’t always be sunshine and rainbows. There will be many storms that will try to keep us down.

However, when we keep our focus on God, we can find a reason to be thankful. We can build a habit of celebrating the grace that He provides and embrace the blessings that He has already given us. The Apostle Paul gives us a great reminder of this in Romans where he says that, “all things work together for the good of those who love God . . .” God will not waste the trials and struggles that we go through. Through it all, He will shape, mold, and grow us into who we need to be. Maturity is assured.

Wounds turn into scars.

For this we have every reason to be grateful. Living a life with the mindset of thanks living will be something that not only changes you, but there is a good chance that it will change those around you.

Wounds turn into scars. Even though they are healed, they are never forgotten. When we go through something, chances are that we will remember it forever. It will always be a part of us. However, if we remain grateful and continue to give God the praise and the glory despite the scars, it could be an inspiration or a living sermon for someone who may be going through the same thing. If someone sees you continue to give praise through a circumstance that had the potential to break you, it could inspire them to do the same. It will demonstrate God’s power to transform lives.

Praise and thankfulness is a key to the prison of ungratefulness. It will help you to learn the secret of being content in every circumstance, and to know that God is working in you and you are able to do all things through His strength.

Thanksgiving is an important day for many. Thanksgiving is a day where families come together to eat, fellowship, and share everything that they’re thankful for (2020 sort of made it hard to do that this year). But if we continue to practice that feeling every second of our lives and remember the things that God continues to give us, we can begin to turn our lives into a constant thanks living.

I hope you and your families all have a blessed Thanksgiving and here’s to a life of Thanks Living. God bless!
